Yarn Friendship Group
The Yarn Friendship Group started four years ago, with about five ladies who wanted to use their knitting skills to help someone else. Now, once a month, 20 or 30 women gather in the lower hall to knit or crochet. The Yarn Group members come from our church, other churches in the area, and the wider community. Other people and groups give the Yarn Group squares they have knitted to make into rugs.
They knit rugs, “Love Wraps” for needs in our own community, and through Wraps with Love in Sydney , they have sent rugs to areas of need all over the world. The biggest challenge they face is with finding transportation to get the work they produce to the places it is most needed.
Each rug is individual, beautiful, and a gift of love for someone in need. Last year, the group made 195 rugs, each taking at least 60 hours. Yarn Group does not accept money, but happily accepts gifts of yarn and time.
The ministry of Yarn Group is twofold. It does provide comfort, and a sense that someone cares, to people in the community and the wider world, who are in serious need. Its ministry is also to its members: providing an opportunity to use their gifts where they will be needed and appreciated; providing a social time, and a chance to care for each other, and share faith and life experience through a “thanks time” each month.
Grace and Peace,
